What new modes of air transportation will exist in the near future? Could eVTOLs— the electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft replace cars soon?
During the 2024 High-Quality Development Research Tour, Huazhi Hu, the Founder and CEO of EHang Intelligent, revealed that EHang will be testing the use of its eVTOL in several cities, including Hefei, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. Hu detailed plans to establish takeoff and landing points within cities similar to bus stops, enabling point-to-point flights that significantly improve transportation efficiency.
For example, the straight-line distance from the current location to downtown Guangzhou is only 9.8 kilometers, and EHang's drones can cover this distance in just a few minutes, drastically reducing commute times, said Hu.
Flying taxis will happen. Clearly, it’s a question of “when,” not “if”.
